Student Attending Summer SOAR Session Chooses “good classes.”

Tuesday, July 16th, an out-of-state student visiting Madison for a couple of days “thoroughly” enjoyed the SOAR process: “Staying in Sellery felt like a 5 star hotel, and my advisor who was only a year older than me totally knew what she was doing.” The student, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was on track to graduate in only 6 and a half years: “I’m studying biomedical engineering, and when I told my advisor I wanted to only take studio art classes for my first semester, she was totally supportive of my decision. I was ecstatic. Looking around the stuffy third floor of College Library at 8AM is when I knew these were the kids I was going to spend the rest of my time with at college.” The student mentioned she really liked the crude, child-like drawing of the DARS logo, but that she had no idea what it meant. Her bright, innocent smile reminded us that the Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration program fostered an environment that ensured the success of naive students in the years to come.
